Graduate Student Organization

What is the GSO?

The graduate student organization is a group designed to represent the needs of graduate students at Northern Arizona University. We are dedicated to improving the graduate school experience and enhancing the opportunities available for teaching and scholarship.

What is the executive committee?

The executive committee comprises the voting members of the GSO.  To become a member of the executive committee you must be nominated by your department (individual departments may have specific requirements so check with them for details).  Each department is permitted to have one voting member represent their collective voice.  We also can elect members-at-large that  represent special interest groups.  Members-at-large are elected by a petition process and are appointed for one academic year.  They are considered part of the voting body.

How can I become involved with the GSO?

If you would like to be a member of the executive committee (see above) talk to the faculty/administration in your department.  If your department already has a representative you are strongly encouraged to participate in the GSO by attending meetings, voicing your opinions, and volunteering to work on projects.  The more participation we get, the more informed decisions the executive committee can make about what issues are important to the graduate student population and how best to take action.

When/where are meetings?

Meetings are held the last Tuesday of every month (to see the current meeting schedule as well as agenda and minutes from previous meetings click here) in Ashurst, room A109.

What is the time commitment to be on the executive committee?

The commitment is what you make of it. You can simply attend the once a month meetings and report back to your department or you can become involved with any/all of the projects the group decides are important to pursue.
